In April 1944, following the failure of the U-Boote in the Atlantic, the Kriegsmarine pulls out all the stops to contain the threat of Allied landings in Europe. Among other defensive measures, it creates a special command bringing together flotillas of small coastal combat units. These formations are designated Kleinkampf-Verbände, or K-Verbände, and are equipped with three main types of materiel: human torpedoes, midget submarines, and explosive boats.

This new work by Xavier Tracol takes stock of all the versions of these craft conceived, built, and sent into combat by Germany before the end of the war: Neger, Marder, Biber, Molch, Linse… Highly comprehensive, this work provides a technical presentation of each craft, explains the vicissitudes of its production, and details the operations and engagements in which it was used.

Numerous period photographs and four 3D models illustrate the subject. A sequel is expected; it will cover all the craft sketched out and projected by the K-Verbände at the end of the conflict (Manta, Tornado, etc.) but which were ultimately never brought into service.
