Under the reign of Philip IV the Fair, France sought to extend its domain. For his part, the Count of Flanders, Guy de Dampierre, tried to protect his domain and the commercial freedoms won by his cities. In the course of a full-scale feudal war, French and Flemish forces clashed before Courtrai. This battle is known as the Battle of the Golden Spurs, following the slaughter of the French chivalry and the capture of the famous trophies by the people of Flanders. This book allows readers to discover the causes of the battle and concludes with a visit to the Courtrai museum, of which Véronique Lambert is the curator.
