Following a first volume dedicated to the Typ VII, Caraktère editions devote the second instalment of this series to the last-chance U-Boote! The author begins by reviewing the various vessels fitted with the famous "Walter" turbine before examining the two most emblematic designs of the final phase of the Second World War: the Elektroboote Typ XXI and Typ XXIII. The versions actually produced are presented in detail, along with all rival projects between 1943 and 1945 (Typ XXIB, C, D, E, T, V, Typ XXII, XIII, etc.). A fourth section covers the many other unfinished projects intended to replace the Elektroboote (Typ XXX, XXXI, etc.). Finally, a last chapter details the armaments planned or actually put into service. In this new work by Xavier Tracol, all these U-Boote are presented clearly and concisely, explaining why and how they were designed, and with what equipment. The whole is accompanied by precise technical data sheets, plans, period photographs and/or carefully selected 3D views to illustrate the subject.
