CARENTAN – Linking Omaha Beach – Utah Beach, Part 5 Paratroopers vs. Fallschirmjäger This fifth volume is part of a series of ten works devoted to the American airborne operations in Normandy, ultimately representing more than 3,500 pages and 5,000 photographs. This volume is not a simple history book. It is an immersion. A plunge into the heart of the first days of D-Day, there where everything was decided, in the hedgerows, the sunken lanes and the villages of Normandy. At

Through more than 245 period photographs, many of them previously unpublished, a raw reality unfolds, captured in the moment, at the very time when the men of the 101st Airborne Division were confronting the German paratroopers of Fallsch.Jg.Rgt.6 for control of Saint-Côme-du-Mont. Each image is the fruit of exceptional reconstruction work. Identified, located, placed back in its exact context after more than thirty years of research, it becomes far more than a document: it becomes a testimony.

This work brings together three major collections and constitutes one of the most important photographic syntheses ever devoted to these battles. It is the result of a unique collaboration between Mark Bando, a defining figure in the memory of the American paratroopers, and Emmanuel Allain alongside Michel De Trez, founders of the D-Day Experience Museum. Conceived as a reference work, but also as a collector's item, this volume provides access to a fragile memory, long dispersed, now gathered and preserved. The index, rich with 1,601 names, restores an essential dimension: that of the men.

This exceptional volume brings together several major collections of period photographs, united to form what is without doubt today the most impressive collection in the world devoted to the 101st Airborne in Normandy. This unique work is the fruit of collaboration between Mark Bando, the indispensable American historian of the division, and Emmanuel Allain & Michel De Trez, founders of the D-Day Experience Museum
