June 6, 6:31 a.m., the 4th Infantry Division lands on Utah Beach while the US Navy, with the USS Nevada, exchanges fire with the German batteries, including the powerful 210 mm guns of the Crisbecq battery, supported by the 105 mm guns of Azeville. At 6:33 a.m., Crisbecq fires three shells below the waterline of the USS Corry, which sinks shortly afterwards. The two batteries resist for several days against Navy fire and the assaults of the 4th Division, which suffers very heavy casualties. We follow this fight to the death, day by day, with previously unpublished information.
