Following the success of "The 2nd US Armored Division Arrives in the Eure", covering 18 to 24 August 1944, we return to this unit, from 1 to 15 August 1944. We examine the liberation battles at Tessy-sur-Vire, Vire, the Forest of Saint-Sever, Champs du Boult, Gathemo, Chérencé-le-Roussel, the Forêt de la Lande Pourrie, Barenton, Domfront and the Lonlay-l'Abbaye area. By examining several thousand pages relating to the German divisions opposing the 2nd US Armored Division, we have revisited all the facts in order to better understand the suffering, courage and selflessness present on each side. This brings a human dimension that is rarely described. A research trip was necessary to gather over 800 pages of daily logs from this American division, fewer than 10% of which have been studied since the end of the Second World War. To enrich this study, our friend Guillaume Payan has reworked all the divisional staff maps, based on overlays that had been superimposed on actual maps, now lost. This book contains 256 pages, 237 photographs and 31 maps.
