CARENTAN, Linking Omaha Beach - Utah Beach, Part III Bloody Drop Zone
This work traces in images the epic of the 101st Airborne Division in its first combat jump in History.
This third volume in a series of five works totalling more than 3,000 pages and 4,000 photographs is devoted to the first hours of D-Day on the cursed Drop Zone — DZ D, Saint-Côme-du-Mont.
Organized by the locations of the 101st Airborne's combat positions, most of the photographs are identified. In itself, this already constitutes information that was not previously available. More than thirty years of research and investigation were required to identify them.
This work is the combination of three collections of period photographs and is without doubt the most impressive collection in the world. To compile it, Mark Bando, American historian of the 101st Airborne, and Emmanuel Allain and Michel De Trez, the founders of the D-Day Experience Museum in Carentan, pooled their knowledge and collections. Mark Bando began collecting testimonies when most of us had not yet been born.
