This book is an illustrated account of the history of this mechanised cavalry unit, from the First World War, through the 1930s as a National Guard reserve unit, and then through the Second World War when it was mobilised.

The 117th Cavalry passed briefly through England in 1942 and landed in North Africa. There it provided close protection for Eisenhower and then Churchill before departing for Italy and the spring 1944 offensives.

Having landed in Provence, the cavalrymen moved up the Rhône valley before engaging the Panzers at Montélimar and Montrevel. They then crossed the Vosges and Alsace, clashing with the winter counter-offensive of 1944–1945. Entering Germany and then Austria, they would take part in the principal battles at the heart of the Reich.
