General Guy François, born in 1946, has been conducting research for over forty years on the history of French artillery, particularly regarding the Heavy Railway Artillery. Author of numerous articles in specialist journals, he has also written reference works on German railway artillery and the 75mm model 1897 gun.

Published by Histoire et Collections, he authored two volumes in the series Les Canons de la Victoire 1914-1918, volume 2, dedicated to Heavy High-Power Artillery, published in 2008, and volume 3, covering coastal artillery and trench artillery, published in 2010.

A regular contributor to the journal GBM (Guerre, Blindés Matériels) since 2007, he has written numerous thoroughly documented articles on the history of Artillery, including in the rarely studied fields of tractor-drawn artillery, portée artillery, and equipment served by naval gunners.

He presents here a synthesis of his research on French ALVF, accompanied by previously unpublished documents and more than 450 photographs illustrating all French railway artillery equipment, the variety of which is nonetheless very great.
