The work accomplished by several veterans of this heavy tank battalion has been considerable. The successive testimonies reconstruct an exceptional war diary enriched on a human level by those accounts. The iconography presented is precisely captioned, shedding new light on certain well-known photographs alongside the mass of largely unpublished documents. It was essential to bring this exceptional publication to the attention of the French-speaking public, all the more so since one chapter deals with the fighting in Normandy, on which new insights are also provided. This work will remain the definitive reference on this unit, which played an important role in titanic engagements. This unit alone destroyed approximately 2,000 enemy tanks. The experience of these former officers also provides a unique testimony — that of the crews of these tanks, which have become legendary the world over and were particularly feared by their adversaries. It offers the view from the "inside", of particular value to historians who did not live through that tragic era.
