THE IMPERIAL GUARD IN COMBAT
Napoleon I's Imperial Guard in combat!
As a general work on the Imperial Guard and its military exploits, the series of previously unpublished plates that make up this book was most likely commissioned by an enthusiast of the Napoleonic period during the interwar years. Apart from a title given to each plate, there was no text, and we therefore endeavoured to provide some information on the events visually depicted by Maurice Toussaint. He excelled at showing soldiers in their context and in action, as you will be able to see when browsing through the pages of this work.
Coming from a family in which the passion for military history and the study of uniforms has been passed down from father to son for four generations, Guillaume Bretegnier, having published several books on French cavalry from its origins to 1918, now makes available to us this magnificent series of plates accompanying the military exploits of the units of Napoleon I's Imperial Guard. President of the association « La Sabretache», he founded the publishing house Epopées and publishes the cahiers de la compagnie d'élite.
Yves Martin, administrator of the association "La Sabretache", member of other societies "Society for Army Historical Research" (United Kingdom), "Company of Military Historians" (United States) has been passionate about military history for over 50 years. Alongside a career as an executive in high technology, he has brought this professional rigour to his path as an amateur historian. He has written numerous articles in many journals including "les cahiers de la compagnie d'élite" and published numerous works on the analysis of uniforms. He focuses on the individual experience as lived during the Revolutionary and Imperial epic. His favourite subjects are the Egyptian Expedition and the Imperial Guard.
