On 17 July 1453, a decisive turning point in the history of France. Before the stronghold of Castillon, supported by the cavalry of Pierre II, Duke of Brittany, the troops of Charles VII commanded by Jean de Bueil and the Bureau brothers faced the Anglo-Gascon forces one final time, led by an experienced but ageing captain, John Talbot.

This final battle, which closed the Hundred Years' War, saw the undeniable victory of cavalry and artillery over the hereditary enemy, thus putting a definitive end to the supremacy of English archery.

Drawing on unpublished archives and meticulous fieldwork carried out at the actual site of the fighting, this work offers a fresh perspective on the Battle of Castillon. With evidence in hand, the author refutes point by point the account established by modern historians and repeated for over a century without any notable revision.
