Numbering four, then fifteen, and soon seventeen per brigade, these cavalrymen logically took the name of Carabiniers. This is how the story of the carabiniers began, a story that would end with the disaster of the War of 1870. Two centuries of history in the service of the King, the Republic and the Empire for these cavalrymen, perfect symbols of the elite of the French cavalry, whether they wore the tricorn, the sea-urchin cap or the crested helmet.
