After the Second World War, the "Lorraine" Group returned its bombers to the Royal Air Force and rejoined the Armée de l'Air.

During the following decades, the unit carried out reconnaissance missions and then night fighter missions on the Mosquito and Meteor, all-weather fighter missions on the Vautour, before finally transitioning to "pure" fighter operations on the Mirage F1.

Today, the "Lorraine" is a multi-role squadron flying the Dassault Rafale on the front line defending NATO's eastern flank. Engaged from the very outset in Operation "Chammal" against the Islamic State in Iraq and then in Syria, the squadron has also been a member of the NATO Tiger Association since 2016.

In this work, we follow the men and women of the "Lorraine" from Gilze-Rijen in 1945 to Mont-de-Marsan today, by way of Agadir, Rabat, Tours, Reims and Al-Dhafra.

Based on archival documents, testimonies from veterans and current Rafale pilots, this richly illustrated book tells the story of this fine unit of the Free French Air Forces traditions in an unprecedented way.
