1943 – 1944 PLAN SUSSEX PLAN PROUST – B.C.R.A., OSS & SIS: Secret Inter-Allied Missions
The Sussex plan was an ultra-secret, tripartite Franco-American-British mission decided upon by General Eisenhower's headquarters in preparation for the Normandy landings and for the subsequent battles of liberation of France.
Under the direction of the British secret service SIS, the American OSS, and the French BCRA, 120 French male and female officers were recruited to execute a bold plan aimed at parachuting two-man agent teams in civilian clothes (one observer and one radio operator) behind enemy lines from early February 1944 until the complete liberation of France.
Their mission: to infiltrate enemy lines and provide Allied headquarters with round-the-clock intelligence on German order of battle.
The Proust plan, complementary to the Sussex plan, was a joint Franco-American intelligence operation launched from «D-Day» (6 June 1944) within the operational zone of American forces. In total, 65 "Proust" agents carried out intelligence and action missions.
The author: Dominique Soulier, son of a BCRA radio operator in the Sussex plan, has been passionate about this largely forgotten history for many years. His numerous encounters with his father's comrades-in-arms — all former agents — allowed him to gather a wealth of information, personal accounts, documents and previously unpublished artefacts, which are now on display at MM PARK France in La Wantzenau.
