Of this production, nearly 160,000 units were built in the 1.5-ton, 4x4 version. It would come in a great many variants: cargo, signal corps van, engineer dump trucks, tractors, bomb service trucks for aviation, etc.

This small truck was present on every theatre of operations of the Second World War, where its ruggedness and mechanical reliability enabled it to carry out every mission assigned to it without faltering. More than three-quarters of a century after its first turns of the wheel, it remains the pride of fortunate and passionate collectors.

The author:

Didier Andres, born in 1959 in Verviers, Belgium, has a passion for military history and American vehicles of the Second World War. He has assembled an impressive collection of technical and photographic documentation on the subject, which he has been happy to share through regular writings — books and magazines — for some twenty years.
