CLANDESTINE PARACHUTE DROPS AND PICK-UPS 1943-1944 VOLUME 2
This volume, devoted to clandestine aerial operations in occupied France, reveals their incredible intensification during the second half of the Second World War.
The entry of the United States into the war and the contribution of their enormous industrial potential, coupled with operations carried out from North Africa, considerably changed the picture. The genesis of the arming of the maquis, particularly during the mass parachute drops of the night of 10 to 11 March 1944, is approached from a new angle, renewed by access to previously unpublished documentary resources in France and abroad.
More than 150 photographs, many still unknown, shed light on these men and women of the shadows. Beyond the precise and detailed information on equipment and operations, it is the human and personal journeys that are brought to the fore. The conduct of operations is shown from the perspective of the aircrews and the ground teams; the memoirs of Jack Risler, moreover, reveal the remarkable story that linked the US Marine Corps paratroopers to the special agents of the OSS in their fight against Nazi barbarism.
