THE GREAT ALBUM OF CITROËN-KÉGRESSE VEHICLES IN UNIFORM - From 1920 to 1940
1st edition of the Great Album of Citroën-Kégresse half-tracks in uniform by François Vauvillier.
When the word autochenille comes up in conversation among vintage car enthusiasts, the association of ideas immediately brings to mind two names that have entered legend: Citroën and Kégresse.
While the former needs no introduction, the latter is no less famous for having invented, developed and brought to production a system of flexible track drives replacing the rear wheels of standard vehicles. Thus were born the first "all-terrain" vehicles — light half-tracks capable of travelling on road as well as on varied terrain. And naturally, the main customer for this new family of vehicles would be the French Army.
For the first time, all non-armoured Citroën-Kégresse vehicles used under the tricolour flag from the 1920s through 1940 are reviewed in chronological order, tracing the technical evolution of the materiel and their various military roles: liaison cars, ambulances, light artillery and airfield tractors, mounted dragoon transports, medium recovery tractors, etc. No model is overlooked; each is treated with illustration given pride of place, following a structure solidly framed by the rigorous analysis and synthesis characteristic of the author.
