Born in 1934, the legendary car designed by André Citroën would go on, due to the events that plunged the world into war five years later, to enjoy a rich and remarkable military career. Thousands of them joined the French armed forces during the Phoney War, then lived through the ordeal of the disaster. The Traction then changed sides, very much against its will, and the Germans, who were extremely fond of it, drove it everywhere in Europe, from the Arctic Circle to distant Russia. But from the end of 1942, the Traction reappeared under French colours, this time engaged victoriously in the Tunisian campaign, in some strange armoured versions. Then came the liberation of France, the Maquis epic, the white stars and the three letters FFI flowering on the bodywork.
The "belle de Javel" then became one of the symbols of a reborn France. A remarkable visual epic made possible by the painstaking assembly, piece by piece over decades, of an exceptional iconography: 375 illustrations including no fewer than 260 period photographs almost all previously unpublished, and 28 profiles produced specially for this work, presenting authentic military colours and markings.
THE book awaited by devoted fans of the Citroën Traction Avant and all enthusiasts of automotive and military history. 144 pages — 260 period photographs — 28 profiles
