The book first presents in detail the technical origins of the Typ IX, then its direct predecessor, the lesser-known Typ IA. The successive versions of the ocean-going U-Boot (Typ IXA, B, C, C/40, D1 and D2) each receive their own chapter, as do the various conning towers developed during the war. A final chapter details the submarine's weapon systems (artillery and torpedoes).

Every version of the Typ IX is covered in a clear and concise presentation, explaining why and how each was designed, and with what equipment. The whole is accompanied by precise technical data sheets, plans, period photographs and/or carefully selected 3D views to support the text. An essential reference for all submarine enthusiasts!
