Entering service in 1969, the Mi-24 (NATO reporting name "Hind") belongs to the very exclusive club of attack helicopters that have passed into legend.

Designed to be the airborne equivalent of an infantry fighting vehicle, the Mil Mi-24 carries unmatched armament: a 4-barrel 12.7 mm Gatling cannon, four 57 mm rocket pods, and four AT-6 or AT-2 anti-tank missiles.

Above all, it is a helicopter equally suited for export: robust and inexpensive, this machine was supplied to numerous countries aligned with the Soviet bloc during the Cold War. It was under Ethiopian roundels that the Mi-24 received its baptism of fire during the Ogaden War (1977–1978) against Somalia; it would go on to serve in Vietnam against the Khmer Rouge, and most notably during the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan.

Still in service with many air forces and back in the spotlight during the war in Ukraine, the Hind and its various variants more than deserved a dedicated volume!
