The action of this elite unit was decisive in the first phase of Operation Overlord.
His exploits must not overshadow the other French forces involved in D-Day in equally decisive roles: the Free French Air Force units integrated into Royal Air Force fighter and bomber groups, the ships of the Free French Naval Forces positioned off the landing beaches, and the paratroopers of the 4th SAS.
Finally, what can be said of the decisive action of General Leclerc and the 16,000 men of his armoured division, which landed at Utah Beach and, on its march towards Paris, had to endure fierce fighting and suffer heavy losses for the liberation of Normandy.
This book revisits for the first time all those Frenchmen — volunteer fighters, resistance members, FFI, anonymous heroes — who took part, alongside the Allies, in the battles of the summer of 1944 for the liberation of France.
