Faced with the urgency of the situation, President Valéry Giscard d'Estaing launched Operation Bonite. Without warning, without ground support, without the possibility of reinforcements and with "scarce and imprecise" intelligence, the paratroopers of the 2nd Foreign Parachute Regiment received orders to jump over Kolwezi.

Colonel Philippe Erulin and his men had a single objective: to rescue the hostages. Drawing on the personal notes of the commanding officer of the 2e REP, family archives and previously unpublished documents, this work plunges the reader into the heart of the operation, revealing the human and tactical challenges faced by these elite soldiers.

But this story is also that of one man's honour: Philippe Erulin. Upon his return from Zaire, he fell victim to a defamation campaign linked to his participation in the Battle of Algiers, and was ordered to remain silent… This book, written by his son, also traces the posthumous struggle to rehabilitate the honour of an officer who, despite all trials, never failed in his duty.

Born in 1970, Arnaud Erulin is the youngest of Colonel Philippe Erulin's three children. From a line of Saint-Cyr graduates, he chose to pursue a career as a business executive in France and abroad over the past 30 years. Married and the father of four children, he is passionate about military history. The Honour of a Colonel is his first work.
