In the minds of industrialists and Hitler alike, if the Third Reich was to hold its own against its adversaries, it had to win the battle of innovation by producing equipment so superior that it would have no rivals on the battlefield and that the balance would once again tip in its favour.

With numerical superiority firmly on the side of the United States and the Soviet Union — producing vast quantities of Medium Tanks M4 Sherman and T-34/76 medium tanks — the only option left, in the eyes of German decision-makers, was to continue focusing on quality while standardising components to the maximum extent, and that is the entire purpose of the Entwicklungstype (standard types) programme, validated in April 1943.

The guiding principle was therefore to rationalise as far as possible the parts and mechanical components of the various armoured vehicles intended to equip the Wehrmacht and the Waffen-SS, in order to simplify factory production, increase the number of available vehicles, while facilitating logistics and field maintenance.

Richly illustrated with 3D views, this book sheds full light on the tank destroyers E-10 and E-25, and on the tanks E-50, E-75 and E-100, the heaviest of which was to exceed 100 tonnes and be armed with a 12.8cm gun.
