The Line Infantry bore the brunt of the final years of the Empire, from the campaign in France to Waterloo, before radically changing its face in 1815, at the time of the Second Restoration. Indeed, infantry regiments temporarily disappeared in favour of departmental legions before adopting the uniform whose colours would not change again until the Great War — blue and madder red…

This work is entirely new to France. The approximately 120 plates drawn by André Jouineau and annotated by Jean-Marie Mongin present the soldiers of the infantry present in Spain and those of the conquest of Algeria.
