La Lune est Claire – The French Foreign Legion in Combat 2008–2018
Nine officers of the French Foreign Legion have taken up the pen to recount the last decade of combat of this legendary unit. For the first time, the reader accompanies the men in their white képis in Afghanistan, French Guiana, the Central African Republic, and Mali. "Monsieur légionnaire" was everywhere France decided to fight. From training to the most gruelling combat, it is the daily life of these men who came from all over the world to serve a country other than their own that is recounted here, as close to the ground as possible.
Over the past ten years, some of them had an appointment with death. They came from Nepal, Serbia, South Africa, Slovakia — often with a certain idea of France, but above all drawn by the myth of this unit unlike any other in the world, its motto — honour and fidelity — and also the "baroud" celebrated in their song "La lune est claire".
It is to them that their fellow legionnaires wished to pay tribute by writing this book.
