This detailed study of Foreign Legion uniforms during the Algerian War presents more than 400 collector's items and approximately 200 period photographs, bringing to life this painful war that put an end to French Algeria — and also, from 1939 to 1962, to 23 years of uninterrupted combat by the Foreign Legion. The first section retraces the main phases of the history of this elite corps on Algerian soil. The second section is devoted to the uniforms of Foreign Legion personnel. The third section presents a complete and previously unpublished study of the uniforms worn by the Saharan formations of the Foreign Legion. The légion's harkas bring the pages of this work to a close, a volume dedicated to the 3,475 legionnaires killed in action in Algeria since 1831, as well as to all French and Algerian men and women who died for French Algeria.
