Following the publication of the first work, many collectors indicated that certain items in their possession were absent from the book. A list of objects that should feature in a new edition was drawn up.

All chapters from the first volume have been expanded (uniforms, signals, medical, etc.) and new themes addressed, such as personal effects, training in the United States, and the daily life of American prisoners of war interned in German camps.

More than 1,000 articles photographed in colour and accompanied by a descriptive note have been catalogued. This second volume therefore forms, together with the first book, an unrivalled and indispensable body of documentation for all those — collectors or historians — interested in the United States Army of the Second World War.
