When he lands in Normandy on 7 June 1944, Ernie Pyle is the finest (Pulitzer Prize) and most popular of American war correspondents. Pyle owes this popularity to his ability to recount, simply and with great empathy, the stories of ordinary soldiers.

During the summer of 1944, he follows the American troops from Omaha Beach to the liberation of Paris, witnessing the liberation of Cherbourg, the hedgerow warfare, the bombing campaign of Operation Cobra, and also discovering Normandy with a sense of wonder.

All episodes he recounts in 70 articles subsequently published in the American daily press. These 70 articles had never previously been translated into French in their entirety.
