This period was a harsh ordeal for the Norman population, but not for the German soldiers stationed there. The photographs gathered here bear witness to this. They were intended for their families and friends. As such, they tend to give a "constructive" and "positive" view of events. All these images are therefore drawn from their personal albums and constitute an exceptional collection. The book opens with the German invasion of northern and eastern France, the prelude to that of Normandy. It continues with the daily life of the German soldier in the Calvados, Manche, Orne, Eure and Seine-Maritime departments up to June 1944. Images taken after the fighting of the summer of 1944 complete the collection.
