Although less celebrated and less publicised than the fighter wings, the bomber, transport, training, and instruction units are nonetheless essential components of the French Air Force.

This work covers not only the bomber and transport wings — many of which have since been disbanded — but also a wide range of units not necessarily organised into wings, whose missions are as varied as they are essential: training, liaison, both in metropolitan France and overseas, electronic intelligence, and airborne early warning. Also included are the helicopter squadrons that made their appearance during the Indochina and Algerian wars.

As in the previous volume devoted to fighter wings, each unit presented is detailed with a historical text recounting the major milestones of its career, and above all through the numerous period profiles and photographs of the aircraft used throughout its history.
