Following numerous requests from our readers, we decided to republish, in book form, the Aérojournal special issue number 3 — a publication that fell victim to its own success and has been out of print for several years — devoted to German combat jet projects that would have seen the light of day had the war continued for another year.

This is not, however, a simple reprint, as a good portion of the texts have been updated in light of newly available information. In addition, new colour plans and profiles will illustrate the always precise text by Mr Jean-Claude Mermet.

Analysed here are, among others, the ultimate versions of the Messerschmitt Me 262 and the Heinkel He 162, as well as more exotic proposals such as the Skoda-Kauba P. 14-01, supposedly capable of reaching 1,000 km/h. All these jets were intended to combat the P-51 Mustang, the B-17 Flying Fortress, the Supermarine Spitfire and the Lavochkin La-7, in order to achieve air superiority over the III. Reich in 1946.
