While this aviator did indeed leave his mark on the wing through his charisma, the St.G. 2 cannot, however, be reduced to the exploits of a single pilot, however exceptional.

It was indeed one of the few units to fly from the first to the last day of the Second World War, operating to the very end on the famous Ju 87, the Stuka, while employing its various versions (A through G). If H-U Rudel was the most decorated German pilot, the St.G. 2 counted in its ranks more than one hundred Knights of the Iron Cross (Ritterkreuzträger), many of whom fell on the front.

Feared by its opponents on the Eastern Front, the St.G. 2 would specialise during the final months of the war in the destruction of armoured vehicles.

Volume I covers the period from the pre-war years to the major tank battle of Kursk in 1943, a pivotal episode in the war in the East. This history — the first in the French language — of 290 pages is accompanied by nearly 600 photographs and colour profiles by Thierry Dekker.
