An engineer to his very core, Louis Breguet turned away after 1905 from electrical engineering to throw himself into aeronautics. He first experimented with rotary-wing designs, then focused on the biplane configuration with moderate success.

This book presents and structures the beginnings of his production, which had reached No. 150 by the declaration of war in 1914. His single-row radial-engined aircraft, sluggish, and his double-row rotary-engined types, unreliable, found little favour with the Army. Restored to success thanks to the Michelin brothers and then to the Type XIV developed with Marcel Vullierme, he pressed on after the war with the Types XIX and 27; but although fame and then honours thrust him into the spotlight, his enduring objective of developing air transport was only partially achieved. All his known aircraft types up to approximately 1933, including a few duds, are presented with photographs and three-view drawings in the same spirit as a previous volume devoted to Morane-Saulnier aircraft. Approximately 750 photographs and plans across 272 pages.
