The Breguet 693 had its baptism of fire in May 1940.

Eleven aircraft from GBA 1/54 were committed in the Maastricht area against German columns. Unfortunately, the ground-attack tactics employed proved disastrous, leaving the aircraft particularly vulnerable, and ten of them, cut down by Flak, did not return.

A twin-engine, two-seat attack bomber carrying a pilot and a gunner seated back-to-back, the Breguet 693 was also among the first French aircraft to be fitted with radio telephony. Like many units, the assault groups were withdrawn to North Africa and, owing to the German occupation, the design saw no further development.
