A Lieutenant with the Tanks is a previously unpublished account of the 1940 campaign, written by Claude Peignot, officer of the 5th BCP. Particularly vivid, it casts an unsparing eye on the operations, the competence of the commanders and the equipment. The notebooks are annotated and explained by Camille Vargas, an author specialising in world conflicts and technical aspects. A true tribute to "those of '40".

This is a previously unpublished account by an officer of the 5th BCP (bataillon de chasseurs portés). In 1940, reserve lieutenant Claude Peignot belonged to the 1st DCR (1st Armoured Division) and took part in the Battle of France, during which he was wounded in an air raid.

Particularly vivid and illustrated by Kenneth Montagnier, this account is annotated by Camille Vargas in order to provide the reader with contextual information and to clarify certain historical and technical points (mobilisation, the weight of tanks…).

The annotations also revisit certain "myths" of 1940.

This is the first work published by L'Escadron Les Éditions, a very young publishing house whose vocation is the sharing of testimonies, archives and studies on "the act of war". It was founded in January 2024 by Camille Vargas, who was passionate about the Garde républicaine in her childhood and whose affinity for cavalry history is well known among armour history enthusiasts.
