With the Allied landings in Normandy, Generalleutnant von Schwerin once again demanded the arrival of Panther tanks. He was promised the armoured battalion of the 24. Pz. Div.: I./Pz. Rgt. 24. Hastily trained by seasoned officers who had all experienced the war in the East, the crews were thrown into the Battle of Normandy to push back the 1st US Army at the end of July 1944. The book follows this armoured battalion day by day, step by step, through its victories and losses at Beaucoudray, in the Percy area, during the offensive on Mortain, then in the Orne north of Alençon, in the Falaise Pocket, and finally in the rearguard actions during the inevitable race to the Seine. Didier Lodieu takes us through the gripping account of this Panther battalion's commitment, without neglecting to mention the numerous Allied units that were ranged against it.
