In the context of the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Dien Bien Phu, this work examines the fighting from its aerial dimension, an aspect rarely considered in existing works.

It is often forgotten that Dien Bien Phu was also a battle in the air, conceived in light of the lessons drawn from the victory at Na San a year earlier and the commitments made to keep the airstrip open.

At Dien Bien Phu as at Na San, the aircraft is at the heart of the camp's defensive system. The aeronautical approach to the battle makes it possible to understand the vision of the French command but above all to better grasp the Viet Minh's strategy against the entrenched camp.
