With chief engineer Vullierme having been replaced by Georges Ricard (he was redeployed to the helicopter subsidiary), Louis Breguet allowed himself to be swept along by modernity and after 1933 had monoplane bomber, transport and ground-attack types developed, while initially continuing with the Bizerte biplane flying boats.

His factories, nationalised but replaced by those acquired from Latécoère and rebuilt after the wartime bombing, housed a Design Bureau of exceptional quality whose versatility extended to gliders, helicopters, transport aircraft (the Deux-Ponts), naval aviation (the Alizé) and several other fields to be discovered in this volume. Breguet explored the new avenue of blown-wing technology. Weakened financially, the company demonstrated great technical qualities (Jaguar, Atlantic, Alphajet) and diplomatic ones (in the management of cooperative programmes). Perpetually short of funds, it was taken over by Dassault from 1971 onwards, into which it gradually merged. This second volume, the core material of which had been treated by Cuny and Leyvastre in a now out-of-print book, renews through text and illustration the image of this pillar of French aeronautical heritage. 830 photographs and plans across 336 pages.
