This account is that of a Frenchman born in Morocco who was among the first to join the 2e DB in North Africa, trained as a tank crewman and incorporated into the 12e régiment de cuirassiers (12e RC). His narrative takes us through the fighting in Normandy, Alsace and the German campaign, as well as to the Royan pocket.

In an altogether exceptional manner, it retraces the daily life of a tank crewman in this division, the demanding maintenance of a Sherman tank, as well as the fierce fighting — including the action he fought in Alsace where he narrowly escaped death. The recently deceased author also presents his personal photographic collection, which brings us even closer to his campaign within this prestigious division.
