When it was formed in 1943, General Leclerc's 2nd Armored Division was equipped with three armored regiments that would form its spearhead: the 501st Tank Combat Regiment, drawn from the Free French Forces, the 12th African Chasseurs Regiment and the 12th Cuirassiers Regiment, both drawn from the Army of Africa.

Present in every engagement fought by the division — from Normandy to Germany, through Paris, Lorraine, Alsace and Royan — these regiments distinguished themselves on the battlefield and contributed to the division's enduring reputation.

This work retraces their history. The text, enriched with numerous first-hand accounts — most of them previously unpublished — constitutes both a synthesis of the various engagements and an evocation of the perilous daily life of tank crews.

It is illustrated with more than 300 photographs, 23 colour profiles and 8 maps.
