SCHWERE SS-PANZER-ABTEILUNG 102 - TIGER OF THE 102
OUT OF STOCK
This highly detailed work restores the complete history of the schwere SS-Panzer-Abteilung 102 during the Battle of Normandy.
The operations of this heavy tank battalion are far less well known than those of the schwere SS-Panzer-Abteilung 101 or the schwere Panzer-Abteilung 503 during the fighting of the summer of 1944. From the beginning of July 1944, the Tigers of the s.SS-Pz.Abt.102 are committed for the first time on Hill 112 and will lock down this strategic height for nearly a month, successfully opposing all British operations to outflank Caen.
The defensive success is significant after several weeks of bitter fighting: dozens of British armoured vehicles destroyed for the permanent loss of only three Tiger I. In early August, the Tigers are thrown into the crisis sector around Vire, where German tank crews face violent combat. Engaged in a withdrawal, Tiger losses will intensify with the fighting in the Falaise Pocket and the retreat to the Seine at Rouen. Only a single Tiger will make it back to Germany.
Reading this book, you will learn everything about the Tiger at Vimoutiers and the one at Saumur, the only two vehicles from this unit to have remained on French soil! Unpublished testimonies and exceptional iconography — including numerous previously unseen documents, maps and visuals (among them complete company organisation charts) — will bring new elements to the history of this prestigious panzer unit, allowing us to get as close as possible to the historical reality of combat in the Tigers of the 102nd SS! Essential for all specialists of German units engaged in Normandy 1944 and enthusiasts of military history!
