Glières 1944. More than 60 years ago, the Battle of Glières was a "great and magnificent adventure" (Malraux) that shed the blood of more than a hundred Resistance fighters from Haute-Savoie. This episode, a symbol of Resistance to the Nazi occupation and to the Vichy Order Maintenance Forces (Milice and GMR), had never previously been examined from a military standpoint. Drawing on unpublished sources, testimonies and iconography, Yves Barde meticulously analyses the forces involved, the tactics and weapons of both sides, and the events that led to the formation of the Glières battalion around the iconic Tom Morel. He finally restores the chronology of the violent fighting that took place between February and March 1944 on the Glières Plateau. An unequal struggle between a trained German army and a handful of young men who had decided to Live free or die. Glières 1944 is now a reference work. This 3rd edition features photographs of the sites and colour maps.
