15 June 1815. After the capture of Charleroi, the Emperor has just entrusted command of his left wing to Marshal Ney, with the mission of advancing towards Brussels in order to cut definitively the communications between the Anglo-Dutch Allies and the Prussians. He himself takes command of the right column. To slow the French advance and allow their own forces to retreat and regroup, the Prussians engage in the fighting at Jumet and Gilly. After a night spent at the Château Puissant, situated in the lower town of Charleroi, Napoleon makes his way towards Fleurus, from where he observes that Blücher has entrenched his troops behind the Ligne, from Saint-Amand to Balâtre, with his centre at Ligny. 16 June 1815. The name of Ligny is engraved forever in the Napoleonic epic, associated with that of the "Last Victory". A battle whose details are often overlooked, this victory — which some describe as "unfinished" — might have changed the course of the campaign entirely.
