SAINTE-MERE-EGLISE MERDERET - D-Day Airborne Operations Zone

Following his works on the Pointe du Hoc, Wn.62 and, more recently, on Pegasus Bridge and the Merville battery, von Keusgen presents here a chronological, highly vivid account of the airborne attacks carried out by the legendary 82nd and 101st US Airborne Divisions during the opening days of the Battle of Normandy.
Not only is his book accompanied by American testimonies of the fierce fighting around Sainte-Mère-Église, the flooded zones and the Merderet bridges, but also by those of Manche civilians and — a key contribution from von Keusgen — German veterans.
The reader will thus discover in detail what some Fallschirmjäger of FJR 6 experienced (such as Bruno Hinz and K.-H. Mayer, caught up in the fighting at Saint-Côme-du-Mont and the famous "Dead Man's Corner"), as well as several Grenadiere of the 91. Luftlande-Division (among them Rudi Escher, already known but presented here in far greater depth, and also telephone operator Heinrich Spieles).
Furthermore, the author has had access to previously unpublished period documents from Generalleutnant Wilhelm Falley and his aide-de-camp, Major Bartuzat, "liquidated" during the night of 5–6 June 1944. The text is accompanied by a rich selection of illustrations.
