Nevertheless: how could thousands of police officers have arrested so many defenceless people and escorted them to the deportation trains without ever opposing their orders?

Raphaël Delpard's investigation goes beyond simple accusation. It shows how, in a society destabilised by the rise of communism, factious movements exploited the poisonous atmosphere to impose the inhuman regime presided over by Pétain and Laval.
