Salomon Ickovic was born in 1911 in a province of the Kingdom of Hungary that would soon become part of Czechoslovakia. Very young, like so many young Jews of modest origin, he joined the Communist Party and committed himself to the life of a fighter. In 1937 he joined the International Brigades in Spain, before taking refuge in France and joining the FTP-MOI resistance.

The fate of Salomon Ickovic is irrevocably bound to the struggle against Nazi barbarism. He carried out dangerous operations in France and Germany. Neither his arrests nor the deportation attempts he escaped could break his determination. First-hand memoirs by Communist resistance fighters are extremely rare.

These are previously unpublished. Salomon Ickovic recounts in detail, with restraint and sincerity, his life from 1936 to 1944. The little-known fate of a young man ready to do anything to make freedom prevail. A hero who would never have used that word to describe himself, yet was one nonetheless. He died in 1971.
