José Luis Lopez Ruiz was born in Madrid (Spain) in 1971. He currently lives in Las Rozas, Madrid, is married and the father of two children. Although he practised scale modelling during his childhood — his father being a modeller himself — with an interest in all types of models (aircraft, Sci-Fi, ships, etc.), he only began to fully immerse himself in this hobby from 2008 onwards, after coming across websites and magazines devoted to the field. This interest grew exponentially when he needed to occupy his mind while his career as a civil engineer was being hit hard by the economic crisis!

He drew inspiration from the work of Luciano Rodriguez, a celebrated and talented modeller who took him under his wing. He joined a group of modellers with an infectious good humour: Tenerife's Rat Pack, always ready to talk about anything but scale models! José Luis has become one of the most talented and respected modellers in the world, thanks to his black-and-white technique. He very frequently gives demonstrations at international exhibitions and regularly features in numerous military modelling magazines.
