THE TIGER TANK OF VIMOUTIERS in Normandy
Collective work
The Tiger tank of Vimoutiers is the only German armoured vehicle of this type engaged in the final phase of the Battle of Falaise-Chambois to have remained in place since the end of the conflict. For nearly eight decades now, its silhouette has become a familiar sight. A rest area allows tourists and curious visitors to approach this relic of the Battle of Normandy.
With time taking its toll, it became necessary for an association, CATIVEN, with the support of the Vimoutiers town hall and under the supervision of the DRAC, to undertake the restoration of this historical monument.
This work is intended to help finance part of the restoration of the Tiger tank, as well as the creation of a museum to ensure its protection and public display. It traces the memory of this armoured vehicle, the latest discoveries about it, and its historical renown.
It also evokes the presence of the Tiger tank and its depiction in numerous comics since 1945, followed by previously unpublished illustrations by the greatest artists of the ninth art.
