Horse Grenadier of the Imperial Guard

The Horse Grenadiers of the Imperial Guard descend directly from the Consular Guard, itself descended from the Guard of the Directory. They have no direct lineage with the Horse Grenadiers of the Maison du Roi, though they were equally prestigious and elite as that ancient corps.

They took part in the charge of the Guard cavalry at Austerlitz and covered themselves in glory during their charge at Eylau on 8 February 1807. They served in Spain, Austria and Russia. In 1813 and 1814, they were present at Dresden, Leipzig and above all Hanau, where they charged the Austrian and Bavarian cavalry.

It is the journal of one of their number, Guillaume Lecoq, that you will discover through the pages of this new cahier.
